Used PS on it. Tried a dupl layer overlay in 'burn' mode; lightened it a lot but... nah, something not right. I trashed that and then did a image adj for shadow/highlights. Again it lightened/cleared the face. Gotta ask. Is there a better way? Paining a mask and then brushing away some like when you want to bring out cloud outlines/textures in a landscape?

I really like this image!

I gave it a try using curves to brighten up the mid-tones and increase contrast. I have "overcooked" it a bit (hat and shoulder), but it may give you an idea for another approach. :)

Thx Bob. Certainly more contrast there. Lightroom has curve options (raw stage) and i chose strong. Maybe not enough.
