This is probably going to sound like a stupid question but...!

On the Playback menu on my 1DMKIIN, there's an option to 'Display AF Points', which the manual informs me will display the AF points used when the image was taken.

Now I may be being totally blind, but when reviewing images I can't see any highlighted AF point, regardless of which Image Display Format I'm using.

Is this a fault with the camera, a fault with the user, or does anyone else else get this problem?

Thanks
Pete

Do you have C.Fn-04 set so that you use the "*" to focus? If so, did you shoot those shots, where the AF point is not shown, without pressing on the "*" focus when the shutter button was depressed fully?

Good suggestion (and I do use CF4), but nope - the vast majority of my shots are fully locked on focus and the viewfinder points light up okay.

No worries - I don't find this to be a problem, but am asking more out of interest!

Maybe I should have been a little more specific. In order to see the red AF points in review mode or playback mode, you must have shot the picture with the "*" button depressed. If it wasn't, the AF point won't show. Also, you have to be in Info display mode when viewing the shot. If you are not in Info mode the AF point won't show either.

That's funny, I never use the "*" button and mine shows in every shot.........yes in the info display mode. If I'm not wrong I think there is a CF to show or hide the AF point, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I'm pretty sure mine is set to display it, and I might be wrong (it's been a while) but I thought default was NOT to display it. Maybe check that out.

Ha - that's the one - I wasn't keeping the * button pressed at the point I fired the shutter! Feel kinda stupid now as it makes perfect sense as to why it would work that way - thanks!

FatPete has noted he uses CF 4-1, which focusses using *. If you don't use CF-4-1 or CF 4-3, focus is via the shutter release, not the * and you won't need to press the * for the points to show.

I don't think I was saying or even implying that the AF points shows up only when using the "*" button for focusing. What I was saying is that if one does use the "*" for focusing (which the OP said he does), one's got to keep the "*" button pressed when taking a picture or else the AF point won't show if that option has been set (which the OP said he had done).
