Comparing 10-22 and 15FE as Birding Lenses

Both lenses are eminently suitable for bird photography. However, the flexibility of the zoom as well as USM is not to be underestimated. On the other hand, the 15FE has the nominal aperture and physical size advantage.
Both shots were taken with the 20D, JPGs unprocessed, as they came out of the camera. The images are minor enlargement crops.
#1 shot with the 15mm f/2.8 Fish Eye
#2 shot with 10-22 @ 10mm.

In a nutshell, those two fine pieces of Canon optics are highly recomended for bird shooters' essential gear kits.

So what type of support is required fro these bests? full Wimberly head on Gitzo Carbon fiber?

In essence, the only fiber support I require is kellogs' raisin bran every morning.
Also, while prostrate on the pavement I do not require any support whatsoever. On the way back up, I need a couple of good samaritans to lift me and stand me up erect (sic.).

Great, i was thinking to get 100-400L to europe for birds or wildlife, now i think i don't need it as i have 10-22, good.

Sorry dude.....the general shootout framework was Connie boy's idea. However, I have had a long standing interest in bird WA photography.
You can't go wrong with either lens. The little FE may not be very popular but it is one excellent IQ little mother.

Fast thinker you are Tareq......proximity (and bird domestication) rules over FL.
I understand even some highly acclaimed "wild" bird shooters use stunt birds for their prize winning photography.

Great bird shots.... have you tried it on other wildlife? A 12 foot gator would make an interesting subject I guess....

Instead of shootin her with 800mm from the safety and comfort of your balcony, why not take a walk to the pond, IS the bird by Sarnia method (Gravol in herring) and shoot her real good point blank ?

No, I bought some "Dove in heat" hair gel from Graf Heg von Waxwing who makes it. Very potent stuff, satisfaction guaranteed.
That's really an old trick of pro bird photographers.

MIght be a little tougher for ducks though... At least if they are in the water...

I love the perspective in the second shot. I got some nice lion shots in Uganda recently. Now I wonder what I could have got it I had put on the 10-22, got out of the car and got closer. Do you know if anyone makes some kind of meat paste I could spread on the lens to catch their attention?
