The path back to the parking lot at Smith Rock State Park, Oregon. My wife took this one, applying her typical artist's eye to the composition.

Comments and suggestions always appreciated.

Nice composition, Dave. Colors look quite warm. Was this due to "golden hour" or PP?

A little of both Stan. It was getting on in the day - after 4:00 PM, sun was getting low, the rocks at Smith Rock are already a golden brown, and I helped a bit with a 'Cloudy' white balance.

BTW - shot with the kit lens. The wife isn't interested in an upgrade to the glass yet.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Good lead-in with the road and fence but it seems that the white balance is off. There is yellow cast.

I've reprocessed the image in CS2 (the 'yellow' one was done in DPP). Interesting difference. Still used the 'Cloudy' setting but CS2 seems to have produced a much cooler image....

Thanks for all the input. The learning process continues.

Underexpose the sky a little and boost the colors and this excellent shot will look even better

Thanks Frank, that does help. It brings the grasses up nicely without turning the sky yellow. I've reposted the latest version based on suggestions/comments here.

Thanks again.

Kudos to your wife for her artist's eye.
A lovely composition. I like the shadows cast by the rail fence and the -- what -- butte or bluff on the left side.

I also noticed a slight yellow color cast.

I've been experimenting with the LAB color space and took the liberty of making a run at this.

I hope you don't mind.

Since the "b" channel controls the yellow/blue hues, it was possible to tweak the yellows in the photo without damaging the blue sky.

Of course color can be subjective, varying from monitor to monitor, and toning down the yellow perhaps robs the image of the late-day golden glow that many would prefer in this particular fine photograph.

Best Regards

Thanks for the re-work Steve, I don't mind at all. I'm not sure I'm all that excited about it color-wise, especially in the grass area. My wife actually liked the first image color I posted. She definitely leans way to the warm side. I will have to try playing with LAB color though. It's something I've not used yet.

Big pats on the back for your wife Dave. She has a great eye for composition and this is really a great shot. I love the fence/path leading you into the shot.
