My brother had filters on every lens he gave me, so I thought that was the way to go. After buying really cheap ones from RITZ for years, I joined the forum and now I only put expensive filters on my lenses if I need them. I don't have a filter on my 24-70L most of the time, but when I need one, I use Hoya and B+W multicoated. I just got my 70-200 f4, and I didn't get a filter for it, so I'm going to order one.

Don't buy third party off brand filters. Get a Canon UV filter for a Canon lens.

OMG - No way! B+W for me.

I have truely enjoyed Hoya HMC Multicoated filters. They are a great price, but I have been ripped off on ebay by buying them cheap.

My friend is buying the 24-70 Online tonight and asked me what was the best UV filter for the buck to get for the lens. A friend of hers told her that it didn't matter if she got a cheap one but is that true? Can you reccomend a good one that isn't too expensive or do you need to spend a lot on one?

No contest: 77mm B&W UV MRC filter, about $65 from B&H.

B+W MRC or Hoya HMC, or better, on my lenses.
