The new ring, Canon Tripod Ring A(W)2 doesn't come with it. It'll probably cost a little more than the 400 f/5.6L/300 f/4L/70-200 f/4L ring, Canon Tripod Ring A(W)

Would have been a real test if he dropped the shutter speeds more and turned IS on/off! Guess we'll have to wait for better tests, anyway I'd rather buy another lens like a Canon 10-22 over IS!

the pictures are taken in a store so i figure the guy just got the lens. there will be plenty of more tests in the days to come.

the same thing was said about the 24-105L -- and i mean ad nauseum -- and didn't our last poll show that f4 lens to be the most popular walkaround by a big margin?

so, when i read comments like yours, and there are plenty out there, it leads me to believe that canon has another huge winner on its hands.

and i may have to get this lens :D .

Hmmm, I think it can still get too dark for you Ed but your sentiments are noted and well made.

Would be worth knowing what is different between the TMA-A and TMA-A2 if any users are out there who are more lux challenged than Ed.

I've seen postings on this new ring but no one can seem to come up with the specs or images of it.

Seriously, way too pricey for an F4 70-200. It should be significantly cheaper then the 70-200 2.8L. I'de say maybe $200 more or so then the non-is F4 version would be much fairer.

again, the people who want this lens aren't trying to save money -- they want a want a smaller version of the canon flagship L zoom with 4-stop IS that can be carried all the time.

they don't want f2.8 and the extra price, weight and size that come with it.

fair price = whatever the market will bear.

if this lens doesn't sell you'll be right...but i'll bet it flies off of shelves :D .

and one just may land in my domke f2 :D .

ed rader

p.s. you'll never see a canon L zoom with IS retailing for under $1200.
