Hi All,

Just thought I would provide some feedback regarding our recent trip to Thailand in that it may provide others with regard to equipment, bags etc.
We spent 6 says in Bangkok, 5 in Chiang Mai and 4 in Phuket. Thailand is hot, and I was pleased not to have lugged too much equipment.

I used a Lowepro Slingshot AW200 to carry a 350D, 24-105mm, 10-20mm and 70-300mm. The 24-105 was used 99% of the time. I did not carry a flash at all, and was able to get away with many a photo, even night street scenes.

The Slingshot was great, especially since we travelled during the Monsoon where one had the option of using the all weather cover.

I carried 4 flashcards totalling 4GB, and downloaded to an PSD. I used RAW+jpg, just in case there was that one photo that needed extra tweaking.

Thailand is a wonderful location, and although I knocked off 2500 shots, I wish I could have taken more.

I have attached one photo taken of the Long Neck Tribe, a few miles north of Chiang Mai.

Cheers

Dennis

Great shot!

I pretty much have the same trip planned. I am running circles on to which lens to bring.

I am debating to bring either 24-105mm or 17-55mm is. On a 1.6 body

You said you used your 24 99% of the time did you find it wide enough? I really am leaning on the more reach with the 24-105. What do you think?

I would take your 17-55 and the 70-300, Thialand has some amazing landscape views (especially up in Chang Mai area towards golden triangle) so you don't want to miss out. The beach vistas and sunsets are also worth a wider lens. There is the occasional bird or animal shot too, so the tele will be handy and the 70-300 IS is not bulky at all.

I had a compact at the time I travelled there, would love to go back.

I am planning on visiting the area next year, and am working out what kind of kit to take. I have a 30D and Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 ... I want to buy a tele, but I wonder if I'll get much use out of it. Wide angle?

Dunno... just thinking out loud for now.

Todd,
Thanks. I would take both. You will need the wide angle for the palaces/temples etc but I would have been lost without the versatility of the 24-105mm. The 70-300 is a light-weight, and will prove handy.
Cheers
