I was thinking about using it as both a macro and portrait lens, and yes, did think of the crop thing. It would make a good portrait lens. Hm, if I get it, should I sell my 50mm 1.8 then??

I bought mine thinking that it would take the place of a 50mm prime - and for me, it has. Of course, that still left me thinking maybe that created room for something in the neighborhood of a 30mm prime to actually be my 50mm equivalent. . .but that's just POTN talking.

Maureen, I remember interning as a nurse at a hospital during 9th grade. It was only a short time, but at a floor with very old people. The nurses were boring as hell and only wanted to have coffee breaks. They made me do the dishes and stuff like that, but otherwise I didn't get to do much.

As I finally got restless (and tired of listening to them over coffee), I began to sit down and actually talk to the men and women. I figured, if all the papers say nurses etc are too busy to talk to the people, then at least I can. So, I did. And they trully liked it. I listened to one woman who felt bad about being alone there, another man showed me how to make swans out of paper, a third woman loved my drawings and so on. One woman needed a wash, and nobody told me to do it, but I did it anyway. The old woman told me "This isn't your job, and I feel terrible that you have to see me like this." I think I replied something like "Don't be."

I don't know why, but her words just stuck with me. And when I left she kept one of my drawings and the man gave me some of his origami. :)

That was very sweet Claire, maybe you missed your calling...

I think the 100mm would be a sweet portrait lens...husband has one. I know my tamron 90mm is a fantastic all around lens...I bought the Nik filters and one is a dynamic skin softener...works great for those sharp ultrasharp lenses...

It'd better be calling long distance. :p

I see PS2, a tablet, and maybe a new computer in the future. Lens wise -- it's the ultrawide that I hear echoing in my head these days. 10-22, 10-22, 10-22. . . Thanks a lot, everybody.;);)

I've just been looking at macros. Gaaah. I can't decide if I should scramble for the 100mm or go for the 60mm (1500 SEK cheaper). What are the benefits with each??

And to make matters worse I got Scandinavianphoto's new catalogue in the mail today. Saw a Sigma 70mm 2.8 EX DG macro. So...I looked it up online and saw that one of my regular shops sells it for 2945 SEK!! While my other regular shop sells it for 3995 SEK! A 1000 SEK difference. That's just insane and must be a misprint, but if it's true, then I'm seriously counsidering the Sigma for the sake of the cheap price. But, I don't know the quality. ???

Btw, I blame Yoda for making me want a macro again.

What about the Sigma 105 2.8 macro?

There's also the tokina macro, which is supposed to be good.

Btw. the canon 100mm and the tamron 90mm, I'd take the tamron every time. I've used both and the tamron actually focus locks faster (if you aren't using manual focus) and has better color saturation. IMO anyway. The only caveat I have against the 60, is the standard "what if you go FF"? Lightstream said he loved the lens but that was the thing that bothered him the most was that he couldn't use it on his 1D or 5D (both of which he hadn't considered getting when he bought the 60 originally). I think he actually converted it (or was considering converting it)...(insane that he is...)

At the moment it's only the 5D that is FF, right?

yes, but you can't use them on the 1 series either...only on a 1.6 crop. So it knocks out any of the upgrades except the xxD bodies. (at least for now)

Hm, in all honesty I doubt I'd go any higher than a XXD body. I just won't ever have the cash, need or manage to justify spending 37,595-71,995 Kr ($5,317.53 - $10,183) on a 1D series camera. The 5D is right now 26,995 Kr ($3,818 ). That I might manage to justify faaaaar ahead in the future, but I doubt it to be honest.

And the crazy thing is that the prices are high in Denmark but in Sweden even higher.

The EF-S 60 cost $497 in Denmark but $572 in Sweden.

And the 5D even crazier. In Denmark $3275 in Sweden $3863.

I am saving for full frame in the future... That would be a quantum leap from my 300D LOL!
