I feel a bit fried :| ; I just got back from Black Friday shopping at Staples. I grabbed two Sandisk Ultra II's 2GB for $40 each, as well as a 200GB ATA100 hard drive for $20. Too bad you have to wake up so early in the morning and live through super-long lines to get anything. We got up at 5:00 and were probably about 150th in line when we got there (they opened at 6)

I don't care if they're giving away diamonds...I won't do it. There is nothing I can think of that would get me up that early to go wait in a line in the cold. You're a braver sould than I, Cody.

We actually have a nice day planned. They have a Leonardo DaVinci exhibition out at the Palm Springs Aviation Museum that we have tickets for. It should be fascinating. Then, we're heading straight back home (away from the crowds) for the rest of the day where I intend to get intimate with the leftovers from yesterday's turkey dinner. The one advantage to being retired is that we can wait till people go back to work on Monday. We'll just stay hunkered down in the bunker and leave the Black Friday business for younger types.

That is nothing. In Denmark when the ticket sale for the third Star Wars movie opened people had been lining up 1 week before. The people that were first in line had brought a couch, a television a playstation and lots of games and dvd's to pass time.

Even sillier---the people who lined up for days ahead of time to get the PS3 when it went on sale a few days ago. We had a bunch of them camped outside the local Best Buy for over a week. Somehow, I can't imagine a group of photogrpahers camped outside a camera store waiting for a new lens. On the other hand, if camera manufacturers coordinated their release dates the same way game console manufacturers do, maybe we would.:confused: I know there are a group of us waiting for the 50mm f/1.2L to hit the stores.

The other part of it might be that camping on the sidewalk outside of B&H could prove hazardous to one's health.

And, by cold, Belmondo means a chilly 65 degrees or so, right?! ;)

I agree, it's insanity.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I just hopped on a computer briefly up here in the fine state of Washington (near the Canadian border). I'm here for the weekend. Be home on Sunday.

Got some night shots last night of the harbor outside my hotel. Can't wait to see how they turned out. Not a bit of wind or rain for a few minutes and managed a couple of 20 second exposures and a 30. Can't see them till I get home....

I hope Pet is behaving himself (a relative term, of course!)

Take care everyone.

The Canadian government appreciates the restraint you are showing in not attempting to cross the border. That way nobody gets hurt.

Generally I just look at this way :

I wanted two 2 GB cards and a 200GB hard drive. I was going to buy them eventually. By purchasing them and waiting in line, I saved about $180. I only waited in line for 40 minutes, so it was like being paid about $270 an hour to wait in line. Technically it was a bit less because of the time to go and check out, but it was still high enough to justify waking up and going out.

I don't at all understand the PS3 thing, nor people waiting ages for movie tickets. Generally I only wait for things that I think I'm getting a good "hourly rate" for in savings.

Who on earth thinks of it that way!?

[I was in line for the wii, not days likes the PS3, but quite a few hours}

Sounds like a great day!
And there is absolutely nothing (sorry, not even canon gear) that would get me to shop out in the real world on Black Friday. I slept in...late. And I'm not doing a thing today.
