Hello,
Can someone tell me what's the minimum for digital photo prints? 180ppi? 360ppi? or somewhere in b/t. Does the size of the print matter? It will not be larger than 8"X11".

I would go no higher than 300, I've talked with several printing companies, and were told that anything above 360 is wasted. Magazines though use 600, but I don't know why the rules are different for their use.

It depends on how big your print is going to be, how detailed the subject matter is, and how close viewers will be. But generally I aim for 240 ppi. But 180 is quite adequate for larger prints which will be viewed from a greater distance.

For an 8x10 I'd use 300 if it's viewed up close but you can get away with 240 if viewed further away.

Doesn't it also depend on the method of printing?
Ie, inkjet can only resolute 240PPI!!!

There's lots of threads on this in the RAW/Post Processing forum. I have 30" prints at 100dpi that look great from a couple of meters away, but if someone will be up close you want 300dpi.

as mentioned, it depends on how it is being printed... most pro labs laser printers only do 300... there are a few, like the Noritsu 2901 that can still handle 400

I generally use 240-300 if printing myself. If using a commercial lab, I let them figure it out.

Although the forum rules frown on simply suggesting an OP "do a search" but in this instance there are loads of threads discussing (in mind numbing detail) the topic of printing ppi/dpi and any other pi that might be relevant.

It really is dependent on how you are printing - if its on an inkjet, you could get away with 150dpi (I bet someone will dispute that - proving my original point!) - so simply multiply the measurement of each side of your final print by 150. If your using a professional lab, then they will probably want 300 dpi (= minimum crop size of 2400 x 3300 dpi)
