Hi, the zoom ring on my Sigma is very sticky, almost feels like it doesn't have any grease on it, (its like 6 years old). I'm thinkin mabye that the grease is dried up. How would I grease it? I would like to stay away from sending it to Sigma and paying them and waiting.

let me add a comparison. Turning my friends 70-200 L is like moving a feather comared to my sigma. The Sigma is like moving a car. It is easier to move it if the lens is vetical, and you are turning it so that the lens is going down, trying to turn it so that it is going to out if almost impossible. I just cracked it open, I think I might need to send it in, beacause the f/stop petals need to be fixed because I can't adjust the f stop. How much do you think Sigma would charge for a lube and repair? thanks

Jacob

When i picked up my 70-200 L a few weeks ago, it was one of the first things i noticed, that the zoom ring was so light in comparison to the 70-300 sigma. The sigma was really tight feeling especially at the 200-300 range.

Mine sigma 70-300 is the same I think it's a traight of the lens. When you get to around 200 it gets so stiff your movement becomes jerky.

Technical perfection is only ever important if it improves the asthetic. It is not the precursor to beauty. Not in art..not in music and not in photography!

Yeah it seems to be inherent in the lense.

It's the nature of this beast.

I just bought the Canon 70-300mm IS to replace mine. I have them both here and tried the focus ring on them. The Sigma is stiffer and feels sticky throughout the zoom range, leading to the jerky response. The Canon is very smooth throughout the range.

btw, I am very happy with the change to the Canon.
