I love this picture that I took of my kids, however I had my flash on and it's too washed out. I did shoot it in raw and I've played with that and with the jpeg file. My pp skills aren't that great and all of my tries have resulted in very contrasty pictures. Can some of you wonderful folks here take a stab at it? And please if you do, tell me how you did it? I have CS2 and Paint Shop Pro 9 but I don't know them very well so I'd need step by step instructions. Thanks everyone. You guys are the best!

Lynn

By no means perfect but using CS2 the main tools were exposure and Shadow / Highlight, and curves. Then a little selective highlight on the faces. The fact that you shot it in raw, then you should be able to produce a very good picture from it.

Hi Lynn, I've played around with your photo a little in ps.

I firstly opened the photo and saved the photo as a tiff then, then went into image then adjustments, levels, and in levels draged the left arow until it touched the edge of the graph and saved.

then i went to brightness/contrast, draged the brightness left to - 15 and contrast right to + 10.

then went into filters- sharpen- unsharp mask and played around in there to make it sharper.

hope this has helped.
you can do better if you still have a raw image of the photo.

In CS2 A really fast adjustment that is quite simple. Image>Adjustments>Levels>Changed the input levels to 16 .76 255 (this is done by moving the far left to the right for 16, and the middle to the right for .76) Then with the burn tool at a 40% exposure spot burn both faces where it was a little blown out (too white). Also some of it had to do with your save for web, because there is a little more contrast on my screen.

I did dodge and burn with adjusted layers. You can do it on your picture layer but changes are not reversible after it has been saved. This way I can make any changes to the picture at any time. I could have done more to the picture like blurring the background. With more time one could get the faces a little better as well. There are a lot of ways to accoplish the same look!

Nice picture so by the way!
