Weather sealed or not I think if I went shooting in the rain with a 1D or any D camera I would probably add a layer of Syran Wrap around it and the lens just to be absolutely sure its 100% weather sealed. I would probably also take my old flash handly bracket and tape a Umprella to it to be extra sure. Just funny that way I guess, but I like my electronics to stay dry.

Now I would probably never ever do that even with a weather sealed camera. I would probably do the very same thing above with a 10D, something I could afford to ruin and still be sad about it.

I don't have a car (hello college :( ) so when I go to shoot at our sports complex I have to walk. I needed to shoot a football practice, then go to the paper staff meeting about 15 min away. I was within maybe 300 feet of the complex when the sky opened up. I shot the practice from under a golf cart and then treked back in the rain to the office-- my bag is waterproof, thank god. I was a walking puddle.

All this weather sealed glass, I just wondered whether the photographers with such glass get wet themselves???:D

I get covered in paintball paint when I shoot.

Fortunately it doesnt matter if you are weather sealed as you are wet on the inside anyway. I do have a dryzone bag which should keep all water out once sealed, they say that when fully loaded and zipped it floats, now i really dont wat to try that. Inside the bag is a heavy weight garden rubbish bag, like a black binbag but only half the length. If it starts raining then i just pull it out and pop it over the camera (which is usually mounted on a tripod) like a poncho. Saves messing around and rushing in the rain, then just have to wait for the shower to pass.

All the best

I've had beer on my lenses, body and flash at various points in time... in fact, the liquids most on my gear would probably be beer followed by salt water and maybe a speck or two of rain once. I really wouldn't mind a weather sealed body because it's a little hard to predict when someone drunk is going to throw a beer bottle or fall over near you and spray it everywhere. No damage so far, though, as I really do try and dodge or cover the gear as much as possible and wipe it clean asap.

If you want your person to be watersealed, simply put on a surfing dry-suit along with recon mask and swimming goggles. :D If you so choose, you can also brush yourself over with liquid latex. Of course, if you're really poor, some well stitched together giant trash bags will be just as good. ;)

Great shots are like great parking spaces... if you're not quick, it's gone!

I was only lightly protected, and was soaked to the bone in half an hour. I was wringing my gloves out every couple of minutes, and only stopped when I noticed liquid water between my filter and the front lens element.

1D's are sealed, but not against the air-sucking action of a slide lens like the 28-300. The pressure/volume displacement is too much for the seals.
