Here is a tip I came up with, although I dont claim it as I am sure others do this trick also. But I ALWAYS have a black garbage bag in any of my camera bags. The last thing on earth I want to have happen is get caught in a down pour with no protection for my camera. A garbage bag will give that sudden protection because you just need to open it up and throw your camera bag into it and hold it shut and it will provide protection long enough to get somewhere dry. Might sound stupid but a 10 cent garbage bag can be your best friend.

Im totally with you on that one although I take the plastic shopping bags we get over here

But what about the photpographer - what is your preferred weather proofing garb folks?

I get wet every day. No joke. I shoot in waist deep sea water daily. I have a special neoprene sock to protect my flash which is not weather sealed.

I go through about 3 pairs of shorts a day.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

I'm afraid I'm definitely NOT weather sealed. If it's inclement, I tend to stay indoors and polish stuff.

So does my dog, and that creates a problem as she's too small to use the washroom with out falling in....watch where you step!

I was interested in this, and just wondered how many slr's you go through in a year, as surely the salty air must get to them eventually?

Very wet here. I swim as well, and no worse for the wear (although the camera stays on land :p)

Ended up in one unbelievably bad downpour. Stood in 3 inches of rain - up to my ankles and came right on up over the tops of my shoes! Since I had just switched to a (then) new Domke F-802, I did not have my black garbage bag (cut 3 holes in it - great 'field raincoat' and don't ask me where I learned that :p). I call the Domke 50% waterproof, it absorbs some, it repels some, and if exposed long enough it WILL get through. I had no scotchgard on it either, being a new bag. Fortunately it held, the 350D and 3 lenses survived without a drop of water on them!

Once we got to shelter we waited around 90 minutes for the rain to clear and I got some nice sunset photos I really enjoyed.
