Maybe it's jpeg compression for the web...gotta hate it. Also, you have to watch your crop, as the bottom 3mm's or so should have been left out...seems as though there is some kind of 'fence' in the shot, that should be removed? MCSquared Photography

A CP filter may seem expensive, but it is essential when shooting outside, especially on a sunny day. You can get a decent Hoya 77mm for your 17-40 for a round $75. If you're going to be shooting outside with a nice lens like that, it deserves to have a CP filter attached. - 5D & 60D (x2), EFS 10-22, EF 17-40L, EF 50 f1.4, EF 24-105L, EF 100-400 L IS

Oct 23, 2006 07:57 | #5 Right now I have a UV filter on my kit lens and I seem to get more lens flare with it than anything else. For the 17-40, I ordered a 77mm HAZE UV-1 FILTER. ---------------

It's MUCH more valuable to you shooting outdoors than a UV filter. - 5D & 60D (x2), EFS 10-22, EF 17-40L, EF 50 f1.4, EF 24-105L, EF 100-400 L IS

inthedeck Cream of the Crop More info | Oct 23, 2006 09:06 | #7 I agree with JT. UV filters don't really help, unless they are on to protect the lens. CP's, on the other hand, allow you to 'brighten' up the colors, within the picture. I would check to see if you could cancel the order on the UV filter, and go with a circ. pol. Or just buy both, if it makes you comfortable having a UV filter on, to protect the front element. Also, if you decide to get one, make sure the CPL a thin one, so that there is no chance of vignetting. MCSquared Photography
