This is my friend whitney. she's an aspiring actress who needed headshots for her theatre auditions. i hope you enjoy. she's a great, hard working girl, and does a great job at what she does. was definitely a pleasure to work with.

favorite one? c/c are greatly appreciated.
thanks :D

on a side note: the only processing on these were :

on the first one, some slight dodging and burning to bring out detail in her jacket/creases. SLIGHT smoothing on facial features on all of them.

absolutely NO "whites of the eyes" work at all, trying to stay away from that until i can do it and it not look fake. :D

thanks in advance.

For a headshot, my favorite is the third. It shows her beautiful eyes. I like the tight crop. It's also a bit different (where the fourth is "standard"). That might help set her apart.

I do like 2&3... I just think the WB needs to make it pop... I'm not diggin' the warmth for a "headshot".... just my two cents. Nice job on the images though!

I ran my b&w conversion action I use for commercial stuff on image 2&3... wow! These are really stunning!

edit: I checked out your site... nice work!

All good shots. I like #4 best because her head isn't cropped, as in 2 and 3.

These are all very nice. #2 would make a great CD cover.

Audition headshots are typically centered, fairly close-cropped but not cutting off the forehead or chin. If you could re-crop #3 this way, it would fit the traditional mold. Of course, "traditional" is not necessarily better.

#4 looks more like a school portrait. The sharp shadow on her forehead from her hair suggests the main light possibly should be diffused with an umbrella or softbox.

thanks so much..

to answer a few questions,

i was using my new Canon 85mm f1.8 USM lens...VERY sharp. love it.

lighting was minimal, for the studio shots. i only have one studio strobe for now, so i was using that, a reflector in front of the model, and had my slave sigma 500dg super on the wall bouncing off the ceiling to give somewhat of a hair light.

i had three male models the same day, i will post those to get some ideas.

thanks so much, and keep the comments suggestions coming. i'm learning a lot from you guys
