attempt at panning - please cc :)

Kind of new at this panning stuff. I also cloned out ALOT of footprints in the sand. LEt me know how it looks

EIther good or bad comments greatly appreciated... I have to learn, I think panning pictures is the coolest thing (esp. kids)

It's pretty badly out of focus or motioned blurred.

Make sure your shutter speed is high enough to freeze the subject in motion and that your panning technique is smooth. A tri/monopod will help.

good try, but as the other said, the subject is out of focus.

people are hard because when they are runing they are moving up & down as well as forward...with something like a vehicle, the vehicle is moving in one direction mostly (unless there are some bumps int he road)

thanks, a tripod? Wouldn't it be hard to move the camera?

most tripods can pan side to side and up and down

I'm not sure what you mean hard to move the camera

Like blam said, a panning shot with a person is very difficult. Take 100 shots and you may have one or two that turn out right.

It's easiest to stop motion when coming towards you, and hardest when going across your line of view. So, next time try it at an angle instead of straight across.

aren't panning shots achieved with a slower shutter speed? what's all this about stopping motion?

When you stop motion in your subject, the background has the blur and motion.

which lense did you shoot with. Some have IS modes 1 and 2 that may make a difference that will help freeze the subject and get the motion effect you are looking for...
