foregoing oldradiomans monstrous post...
I would call user error as neither shot look like a very good sampling of "sharpness" in my humble and most of the time worthless opinion.

But, you definatly have something else going on with all the noise. 60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Here is the full shot from the 24-105: The images don't look as noisy on my pc.....it may have something to do with photobucket. 5DMkIV

You also mention burst, does that mean that you actually shot 3 fps or so. If you were not shooting at a fast shutter speed, this may cause the sharpness to suffer, however probably not the problem. WHEN SHOOTING WHITE, must get proper exposure or will underexpose and cause noise. When I shoot a bride, I use manual and meter off the grass, or something that will yield 18% gray, then I will check the histogram watch for flashing overexposure. Photos must be properly exposed or the sharpness will suffer. Oldradioman has a good idea. Compare your lenses under controlled and identical conditions. obtw, I also have the 24-105 and my bet is, that it is sharper than most of the lenses in your bag.

Oct 24, 2006 14:21 | #22 I don't think I am doing the "100% Crop" thing correctly. I zoom in until CS2 says I am at 100% and then I cropped a piece of the image, hit enter and saved as a jpeg. When I do this, there seems to be tons of noise in the picture. Almost like I made the picture too big and then cropped. 5DMkIV
