Scott, kids are hard to photograph. I have had my share with my little cousins. What you might also try is to take a photograph of them and then show them the picture in the LCD. They might warm up to that. But sometimes it can backfire. Now every single time I take pictures of my little cousins they run up to me yelling, "let me see, let me see."
hehe! I tried the LCD thing, but then every time i picked up the camera, she wanted to pose for the shot, and i was after sometehing a little more candid. I think half of my problem is that i take too long with the shot; far too much faffing about.

Let me ask you this, when you started taking landscapes, was it alien to you then too?
Not so much, because capturing landscapes was my reason for taking up photography. It's only really since getting a DSLR that i've started to get inspired again, and other aspects of photography have started to appeal!?!

Unless she's a photographer herself...
Very true. Only problem is, if i don't love it, mommy's never gonna see it lol!
