so i just noticed what look like a little piece of thread/hair through my viewfinder at the top left corner. i have the xt, and tried cleaning the sensor but that did not solve the problem. i don't think it is affecting the pictures, but i just want to get rid of it. it is sometimes distracting to me to see that through my viewfinder when taking pictures.

any suggestions? thanks!

It's probably something on the mirror or focusing screen...above the mirror. You could blow them out w/a rocket blower but don't touch either (I know from experience that the focusing screen scratches very easily)...the mirror is very easily marked too...so just try blowing both those areas. Also, check the eyepiece and see if there is any dust/lint there.

It probably is up at the focusing screen. If you remove the lens and look up at the inner surface of the focusing screen, can you see the hair? If not, it might have somehow gotten up on the other surface of the screen on the side next to the pentamirror. No harm in their position, but a nuisance. It is out of the optical path to the sensor if it is at the focusing screen.

It WILL be on the focusing screen.. The lens in your eyepiece is focused on the focus screen. The mirror is too far away for anything on it to be in focus. Because of this, small bits of dust and hairs on the mirror will be invisible.

As said, it is on the focusing screen. Try using a blower. If it doesn't work, just ignore it. I once tried to clean a focusing screen and it just made things worse. It won't affect your images anyway, just what you see in the viewfinder.
