Oct 23, 2006 18:22 | #18 You can always do a Paypal dispute or threaten a credit card chargeback. If the least, seller should split the cost of repair with you. Fair is fair unless he sold it to you as a unworking unsharp lens, which I doubt. Christopher J. Martin

Oct 23, 2006 18:23 | #19 Hey Chris. No, nobody is being a jerk about the deal. I bought it, it's my problem. But I won't be buying any more used equipment, since there is little or no return potential like there is with a business. Fair is fair unless he sold it to you as a unworking unsharp lens, which I doubt. Well, it was claimed to be a nice sharp lens, but since I never owned one before, it took me till the day I finally boxed it up for shipping, that closer, bigger, zoomier, didn't mean sharper. I can see that happening quite easily. The seller was upfront and told me my copy was soft (which is a big reason why I got such a good deal) but I couldn't tell unless I started to look closely at 100% crops.

Crap did I just jinks myself? When I baught my 1DMKII it was a refurb with a full warranty but it was backfocusing and seemed to be worse with the 135L. So Canon asked me to send in the camera and also the 135L. The 135L was my sharpest lens and was only a few monthes old, well I got them back after a month and the camera was fixed but the lens was not focusing properly. So off the lens and camera go to Canon again and they tell me that the 135L was dented and the focusing system was jammed. Sony A7R3 & A7R4

The 135L was my sharpest lens and was only a few monthes old, well I got them back after a month and the camera was fixed but the lens was not focusing properly. So off the lens and camera go to Canon again and they tell me that the 135L was dented and the focusing system was jammed. I told them it worked fine before I sent it to them and sent pics to them to prove it. They gave me a brand new 135L and that issue was solved. Not long after that I baught a used 24-105L off an excellent POTN member and had calibration issues with it, this lens was even calibrated by Canon a few monthes back and the repair bill was included in the sale. What I think happened was it was bumped around during shipping and this was enough to put it out of calibration. Canon again wanted me to send in my camera with the lens but I said twice was enough. The lens came back over a month later and the backfocusing issue was repaired and it works great now.All my lenses except for my 17-40L are under a year old which entitles them to warranty work. So my advice to you is if you buy used make sure it's under a year old. Dan every lens i own has made the trip to canon and even a few that i have sold -- except the 24-70L and 17-40L. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

Like you dropped it, so let's sluff it off on an unsuspecting buyer. Count yourself lucky if you've never taken that bath. I mean, if you've even ever bought some used gear, sight unseen. For the most part, users are up front and honest. You always do your research though. Try to find past references. I've bought a few things and they have all worked fine. All have pretty much been considered mint, and they damn well were. Go UCLA

Besides, I had a used 24-105 that had an issue and Canon serviced (actually, replaced) it for free since the date code indicated it was less than a year old. Website
