I love that second shot and the grey background! :).

Good to hear this all ended up nicely, the photos sure do look sharp. Looks like quality control on the 100-400L IS is very good though considering what I've read and seen. I'm still opting for the 300 F/4 (although I'm not ready to buy anything for wild lifing yet.)

To tell the truth, I was going to sell this if I couldn't get it dialed in soon. But I am thoroughly satisfied with what I saw today. I mean, those images had no photoshop on them at all other than resizing. I shot in JPG Large on the 30D.

I already have my eye on my next lens. I want the 70-200L 2.8 USM non IS. :D

I've always kept filters on my lenses. It keeps them clean and protects them. I can replace a scratched filter a lot easier than a lens, and I'd rather clean a filter than the coating on an expensive lens.

But, at least with this 100-400L with IS, I will do without. I use a UV on the Sigma 105, and there seems to be no problems.

So pick up a Heliopan or B+W. I don't know, I've never had issues with mine and never really had an occasion warranting their removal - except to swap it out for a CPL. Anything less than a Hoya Pro1 and you're asking for trouble.

Anyway... That's really cool that you got everything straightened out with this lens! Glad to hear it. Those last couple of shots are pretty darn sharp and have great color. The bokeh is good too.

Well, I'm shooting without one for now, at least on the 100-400L. But, I will be buying a B+W in the future to use on it. Just too old a habit to break. :)
