.....yeah, I've got it all figured out real good: those swine at Canon do not wanna tell us the lens release date so as to make us real anxious with our credit cards. Cause a mad dash to buy the lens, helter-skelter, just name the price, whatever it is !
Yup, I've got their little Bizantine strategy down patt !;)

Now, has anybody got the lens ?

Nope, I wish I did. I thought you were saying you had it...
I have a bunch of friends waiting for me to take their Christmas card picture. I hope I can squeeze those family groups in an 85L!

November 2006, according to Canon USA. But, I can see why the waiting is becoming unbearable. Nice lens...or so some hope.

I bet this lens will make the 50 f1 L go down in value. Dispite the .2 fstop I bet this lens focus' closer also.

Not likely Chris......I reckon 90% of 50 f/1.0 buyers get the lens because it is scarce and extremely expensive.....to me that's a fairly clear cut case of a curio item (collectible) appeal.
The 50 f/1.2 is neither scarce nor extremely expensive....so it will not appeal to the same market, nor compete with the 50 f/1.0.

Agree with Petkal. f/1.2 is a stop faster than f/1.4, congruently to f/1.0 to f/1.2 - doubt that the price will go down. Plus there is aspect of "collectibility" like 200 f/1.8.

I'm awaiting for the notification email from B&H about the f/1.2 availability to pick one up.

I bet it will have the same CA and softness problems wide open as the 1.4 though.

Apologies for being a pedant but f/1.2 is only half a stop faster than f/1.4. A full stop would be f/1.0...
