Processing Pic of GF (c&c please)

Hey guys, took some shots of my girlfriend when I got my new flash. This took a bit of convincing because she wasn't wearing make-up and didn't have her hair done. That usually a requirement for me to be allowed to snap a shot of her. Well I somehow managed to convince her to let me shoot a few. I thought this was a cute composition, so I post-processed it. She hasn't seen it yet, but I'm just curious what you guys think. I think she will probably be pleased with it.

It's nice, but should have got the whole chin in. I'm sure she will be happy with it.

We know women with no makeup...they always think they NEED makeup, hopefully this shot will ease her down. Certainly looks good with no make up.

Very pretty lady. I like the image, good smile, good exposure. She doesn't need makeup IMO. I have a bit of trouble with the way the glasses ended up (nice treatment of them with flash though, no glare). The eye and frames merge on both eyes.

Overall though, quite nice.

Overall it's very nice. I think would have looked a little less cramped if you had gotten her chin as well.

she doesn't need makeup... she's very pretty... nice job keeping the glare off the glasses... i had problems shooting a little girl the other weekend wearing glasses.. almost drove me crazy... (to say the least it was a short trip for me)

Hey Titus213: Just curious what was wrong with the placement of the glasses. Is it the fact that the frames ended up in the eyes a bit? I'll try to pay attention and get her to not turn her head quite as much. Or is it the distortion they cause on the side of her face?

Thanks everyone for your comments, glad you like the picture. I see some people don't like the ultra closeup of a persons face. I don't shoot all portraits like this, but I do like the just under the mouth to just over the eyes framing. For me it works, but I guess it's a personal taste thing.

I don't care for the frame ending in the eyes. Just a bit of eye between the frame and the iris would improve the shots IMO. She's so pretty I never even noticed the distortion....

That's what I figured it was. I'll have to keep that in mind when I decide to shoot her more seriously. This was just a fun snapshot after I had played around with the new flash for a bit. I'm new to portrait/people photography, and still a bit unsure about composition and things to watch out for. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I'm normally a high contrast lover too. I found I liked this one a little softer on contrast. Not normal for me though. I found when I was playing with the contrast I was loosing detail in her eyes. Maybe I needed to apply a curve at the same time to keep the details in the iris.

assuming you are using photoshop, you could apply the contrast through curves or levels and use a layer mask to unselect the eyes.

Thanks for giving it a shot. I think I still like the less contrasty version of it. I kinda like the soft dreamy look with this particular shot.
