My kit lens has given up the ghost and its landscape season for me so i cant decide on the 17-40L or getting both the sigma 10-20 and 17-70 for about the same price??

I love the idea of the canon but the extra width of the 10-20 appeals to me too and i've read a lot of good things about both of the sigmas on here.

My only niggle is im thinking of upgrading to a full frame body next year and apparently i wont be able to use the sigmas for this???

Heelp me!!!

I'm getting a 5D and 17-40 during the rebate period, to me from me.If there's a chance to go FF I would continually invest in lenses that will work with it. I won't have need of the Tokina 12-24, may trade for a 135L, the next target.

If it was me, Id go with the sigma duo, nice bang for the buck. I too plan to go FF sometime next year, but that shoudnt deter you from getting what you need now, thousands of click between now and then.

I do plan to hang on to the 350D though (to be fitted with primes). The 10-20 is a great lens.

i guess the sigmas are a better idea as i'll be keeping the 20D also. I actually have about £800($1500) for the U.S friends :) so i might even be able to stretch to the 17-40 and the 10-20 if i look in the right places... hmmm
If i got the 17-40 i'd have extra to spend on filters etc as i have my eye in the Lee set for landscapes and i also need a new bag to keep everything in..

Dont u just hate money burning a hole in your pocket?!!!

I agree with the "think now" philosophy. You can always sell things on later if needed but you will never be able to go back and retake shots you missed because you bought what you needed next year.

Not really, so as a friendly gesture I will reluctantly let you give your money to me so that way you will not have the problem any more!

Michael.

Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.
EXIF is available inside all my photos, though bribes are still recommended anyway.

You might not need to stretch yourself as much as you think.

I got the 17-40 for around £430 from a seller on ebay. The guy imports from the States and there is no duty. I can give you his details if you want.

Hoya UV filter for it was about £15 and a Hoya CPL was around £20.

If it was me I'd go Sigma 10-20 and Tamron 17-50.You'd still have plenty left over for filters and stuff. The Sigma's a very good lens and the Tamron is optically superb.
