Hi Krista;
#2 has a great look & feel of cold dereliction...
It certainly works better in B&W. I had a brief play, and the feeling of "cold" increases dramatically...
I would also tweak the horizon a little to put the points & telegraph poles vertical...
#1 has too many "modern" elements in there to give it that same feel...
Cheers;
Lee

Number two for me as well, it has a more 'desolate' 'run-down' feel to it. Also the tracks lead you into the scene better IMO.
Agree about the horizon, looks a bit off, nice shots though.

The second certainly speaks desertion to me, too. I like the composition of the first very much. And the left-hand hopper buried in the weeds seems gloomy. However, all of these cars look fairly new, as if they haven't been there very long. Where were these taken?

Very nice, Krista. I love old and dilapitated railroad scenes. It definitely sparks the imagination. Thanks for sharing.

B&W conversion might make these better. The first shot seems a bit far away from the subjects. I might have gotten a bit closer and used a different angle to get the three in there. Either way, good shots.

Hi Krista;
I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of playing again with your image, to see what could be done...
I will happily delete it if you don't want it here...
(If you are OK with other users playing with your images - please check the "Image Edit OK" button in your personal profile...)
I levelled the horizon (well actually straightened the pole); re-cropped to take out the blank canvas; converted to greyscale; re-set to RGB; added some saturation, and tweaked the curves a little... I also cloned out the white tanker wagon in the left BG; I thought it was distracting...
IMHO - now it really does look coooold & desolate!
Cheers;
Lee

Both great shots.
#2 would look great in a frame on a wall just the way it is.
Like your sig. :)
