since the fiddy is sitting open at 1.8, would it be good to take pics of sunsets?

I thought that the lower the f-stop the less things are in focus. Most of my sunsets was taken at f/12-18. Although this particular shot was taken with the POTN Nifty Fifty that is floating around the world, not my particular copy. Either would have taken the same photo though. I thought that the lower the f-stop the less things are in focus. Most of my sunsets was taken at f/12-18. You're confusing DoF with sharpness. The smaller the aperture, the greater the DoF. Most lenses don't reach maximum sharpness until at least f/5.6 typically. So beyond that you're in the "sweet spot" until you get to f/16-22 or so, where diffraction starts to adversely affect your image. La Vida Leica!
