If you're going to use the lens indoors and out, you will probably want a fast zoom. I've found, however, that one lens just doesn't cut it for me for indoor and outdoor glamour when I need to isolate the subject from the background. So I started out wih a two lens combo - the 28-70 f2.8L and the 70-200 f2.8L. With those two lenses I can shoot glamour just about anywhere.

Having said that, I've supplemented my glamour tools with two additional outstanding primes - the 85 f1.2L and the 135 f2L. Cheaper alternatives could be the 85 f1.8 and the 135 f2.8 SF.

If you're just starting out, the 85 f1.8 will work, though it will be bit long on the 1.6 crop body for indoor shots. A good two lens kit, would be the 50 f1.4 and the 85 f1.8.

I just don't think you can get away with one lens for indoors and outdoor shooting.

If I can add a 2cent amatuer comment it would be this....

I'd go short with a 35 and an 50 prime for both indoor and outdoor on a APSc sensor. Indoors you cannot walk backwards through a wall, outside you can walk up as close as you like most of the time.

I have the 50 and 85 and the 50 is about as long as I'd want to be indoors unless it was like a shopping mall or very large studio.

Zoom would definately be the 24-70f2.8...

The Canon soft focus come immediately to mind, but you could use any of your favorite lenses (depending upon the focal length you need), along with a softar (zeiss soft focus filter).

The cheapest route for quality is Canon 85mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4. Zoom route is Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 and Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
