Has any experienced this? I came over to the pool and snapped of a few of my uncle drinking for a laugh, and after a minute or two, there was a group of foreign adults on the other side of the pool, staring and laughing at me. And before long, there was another handfull at the bar. I knew they were taking the mick because they were all staring at me, one would be saying something, then they would all laugh. I felt really...annoyed/embarrased and so had to leave.

I had my 350D, BG-E3 and 70 - 200mm USM on me at the time.

Has anyone else had anything like this before?

Who cares if people you don't know and will never see again laugh at you? Ignore them.

I undersand how you must have felt, especially if it was a group. You do come across tits now and again, the key is to ignore them and get on with it.

I don't get it.

Someone explain to me why they could possibly be laughing at a you taking photos. Was it a photog convention where everyone owned a 1D or the anti-digital camera movement?

I'm sure I'll get a weird look or two when I go out in public and take photos of buildings and parks but laughs?

They were probably joking that your camera would feed a family of six for two years in their country.
You should have pointed the camera at them, would have made for an interesting series.

I like in an area that is very high in foriengers and illegal immigrants and whenever i am out with my camera they always stare at me and point and do things like this.
I'm more worried about being bashed over the head and having my gear stolen than people laughing mate. At the end of the day you are the one who is doing something productive and worthwhile and they(but not all of them!!) are just taking our country for a ride and drinking our hard earned taxes while we struggle to pay for them!!

just smile at them and feel sorry for them.

Ok thats my rant over with....

I would have started snapping them, took a look at my screen, then laughed!

Some adults are adult only in body and are unfortunately stuck with an immature emotional make-up. They will laugh at those they perceive different, even if it is something as minor as having a DSLR instead of the more common P&S or camera phone.

Don't feel like you need to leave in situations like this. The problem is theirs, not yours. Ignore them, perhaps pity them but don't change your pursuits because of them.
