hope you guys don't mind a little bit of kwento :) i read from the birding website here that definitely spring is around the corner and these wonderful beautiful tiny birds are starting to show. so lunch break, i decided to walk around and not a few minutes later, my tummy is krug krug. damn, kill joy. and the weather is not cooperating, its cloudy and pretty soon it will be raining. the first place i went to is a failure. and since my tummy is krug krug i gave up and decided to go home. on the way, i decided to visit the dock and hopefully see a kingfisher. and since my tummy is not krug krug anymore, i said what the hell, just do it. no kingfishers, and i was attacked by 2 pigeons. lol. i am walking towards and i saw these very small bird, so, i looked thru my zoom lens and saw its a HUMMINGBIRD. yes! i walked towards the pretty bird and took some shots. then it started raining, and my tummy is krug krug again. lol. so i decided to go home but i will be back.

here's a couple of pics, will post more later :)

Nice. What lens did you use on these shots, how far were you from the birds?

i suck at estimating distance but maybe around 20 - 25ft. these pics are about 50-60% crop. i was using the 400 f/5.6 lens. these shots actually it was already drizzling so i hurried up going to the car :)

Same, and what type of pp you used? Can't seem to mimic the clarity and sharpness of your shots.

basic pp angel. i use cs4. because i have to crop this heavily, i do a reduce noise first, then usm. then level, contrast and saturation. i play with these until i like it :)

Im assuming you're asking me same question I asked Jodelak?

...if so and either way, might as well share the settings. LOL - I used my 60D and Canon 50mm 1.4 (yes you'r reading it right, 50mm Hehehe) shot thru a glass window with off camera 430exII. Im guessing I was about a foot and a half away from it. I was surprised the bird didnt see me, and it didnt bothered by the flash. All I did on the PP was a little bit of unsharp mask, levels, and a little crop.

It was my on my friends house,. But yeah, the humming birds over there are present all seasons. They come by at the feeder once in the morning and in the afternoon.

When do you expect the birds to come by at your backyard?

in my block i've never seen a hummingbird. my neighbour put out a feeder all year long last year and not one visited the feeder. maybe i will be a little bit luckier but i am not counting on it. this hummingbird that i was able to take a pic was in the river banks, 5 mins drive from my house.
