Just got my new efs 17-55/2.8. Took some pix in the backyard, not on a tripod, not MLU, comparing both lenses at 2.8. I had already heard other people's answers for this comparison. Hmmm. the 50/1.4 won up close, far away, low light, bright light. More testing to follow.

My 17-55mm is sharper than 50mm 1.8 at 2.8...I don't know if 50mm 1.4 is sharper than 1.8 at 2.8 though...

I'm working on a shoot out 'tween the 17-55 and the 24-105. Close race so far. I was also testing the IS on the 17-55. Have gotten clear pix down to 1/2 sec at 24mm, with either of those 2 lenses (17-55, 24-105.)
