Thanks, if you can do it you should - I'm a born and bred South African, there is no place on earth like Africa.

Im an SA boy myself, though parents were bred in Rhodesia but left SA because of the rubbish which goes on there but such a brilliant country. Just came back from a trip there over christmas myself. How i miss thee.

Fastastic shots as well arkturas, wish i had as good a lens when i was there. Im having a bit of a laugh at how some ppl not familier with the tongue are pronouncing that name though haha.

Wow!! i'm thrilled to see these. My 1-4 will be here today and a group of us are heading to Namibia/Botswana next August. Any advice you can give us would be great!! I love your shots as well.. The lion and elephant are my favorites.

reccomendations,
1. Shoot RAW,
2. Take extra memory storage, I used a multimedia device to copy my images onto a larger harddrive.
3. Take your time shooting, you will see allot of wildlife.
4. Stick to what you know. (try not to fiddle with new settings)
5. Enjoy yourself and remember to post your results on POTN
:D

Some very nice pictures. I recently got back from Kenya, absolutely loved it! I really like the cheetah. The elephant looks like it was a large one. Nice closeup on the croc as well.

Those are some great shots and advice. The family and I are going to South Africa in September for 16 days, five days in Kruger in the Sabi Sands area. Trying to get as much info as I can to be ready. I am taking my 28-105. 70-200, 100-400, 1.4x, and a laptop. Any suggestions would be great.

The Kruger National Park is probably the largest park in Southern Africa, next to the Okavango Delta, in SW Africa.

You’re taking a pretty good selection of glass with you, which should not let you down.
The 100-400 is a great lens for Africa, Lots of sunshine will enable you to get great results. (especially stopped down)
the 70-200 is also an excellent addition, I only wish I had two bodies when I went so that I could alternate better.
I've heard some good results with the 24-105 too,
Something else though - try the tape mod to your 1.4TC this will give you back auto focus if you don’t have a 1Series body, it hunts a bit but still works really well stop the lens down to about f8 on the 100-400 for better reach/results - but in all honesty the 400 is ample.

1 more thing get a South African power adapter for all your plugs...
Enjoy South Africa :)

PS Dont forget to show us some of your pics
