Hi all, I posted something similar in Lenses a while back, but maybe here would be more appropriate?

I use 70-200 most (all) of the time, but on the occasion when I can stand (safely) inside a hairpin or maybe want to catch a bit more scenery I need a wide angle lens option. I guess most use 17-40 f4 but what other sharp lenses are available without having to compromise too much on AF speed/accuracy.

I am considering the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 because its faster and cheaper, but is it up to the job of producing similar results to the 70-200?

edit: moved from Motorsport section
