I tested the 24-105L about a year ago and didn't really notice much difference in AF speed. SolPics

I would say that IS isn't as critical if shooting people, outdoors or indoors. You can always handhold a 24-70L at the minimum shutter speeds your need for that purpose. I know the 24-105 has IS and is f/4, but what about sharpness, focusing speed, etc. between the two? I plan to use the lens for outdoor public events. Price is not an issue, but I don't want to buy both  .I owned both lenses and in the matter of sharpness, focussing speed and build they are both top notch.
