I love my IS lenses. I couldn't have done this without it. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95229

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

IS does help when panning, which is why I would get the 70-200 f/2.8L IS over the non-IS. As far as those lens are concerned.. IS is practically useless unless you have a 5 alarm case of Parkinson's

IS is not at all useless. Even for people with steady hands it's of much use in certain situations.

I have a 24-105 IS and it's a a marveallous lens. The IS is suberb and it's worth every penny.

And IS helps in many cases. Anyway on my lens IS is allways on.

Good luck.

depends on the conditions and the lens. if it's a new L with tripod sensing IS (like my 70-200IS) you never turn off IS, just switch to mode 2 if doing sports. on all others, you don't need to turn off anything, but it will save battery life if you do.

Its an older 28-135 IS USM that only had mode 0 and 1 (on and off). Would your run IS on a tripod or monopod? Like I said, I've read you should turn it off on a tripod, does that includ on a monopod, which wooudn't be as stable as a tripod.

Handheld 24-105 at 1/3 second. IS is very nice on this lens.

The manual with the 24-105 states that you should turn off IS when tripod mounted to conserve battery power, it doesn't say anything about degrading the image (like the manual for my 100-400 states).
