Hello guys.

I just saw here something about the Canon 70-200mm f/4L DO IS USM:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF_70-200_mm_lens (external link)

"We are certain the current market has more room for 70-200 focal lengths, the DO version of this popular lens will give photographers yet another choice in our robust line up."

Hmm! Could somebody show me this statement on the Canon page?

Has anyone else than me heard of this?

Is this just complete b*ll*h*t?

Regards!

Wikipedia - when there's no control on what gets written, there's no authoritative value to what's written. Anyone can say anything. Someone could post that the 18-55 EF-S is the least-expensive IS, fluorite, DO optic out there, but that doesn't make it true.

There is no DO version of this lens. This particular flavor is a new lens though, being only what - a month old in the lineup or so?

Properly it is the "Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS" lens. Nothing more, nothing less.

I do believe we will see more lenses with the focal length of 70-200mm perhaps, or atleast another 200mm prime. The 70-200 focal length could perhaps be the most popular lens in its price range and in the telephoto area, and for Canon, the most popular L lens, followed probably by a lens like the 17-40.

I see a new 200mm prime eventually coming. Nowadays people crave over the 200mm f1.8, and although it's not being manufactered anymore, there is obviously a great desire from enthusiasts and professional for such a quick prime at 200mm. The 200mm 2.8 now seems to be quite good, but with a 70-200 f2.8 IS and 70-200 f2.8 Non-IS in the market, it leaves quite a bit to be desired, and although with it being a prime it produces a little bit better then the 70-200 at 200, it still is not worth buying if you already have a 70-200 2.8.
