I stopped by my "local" shop today and they had the EF LENS WORK III THE EYES OF EOS on clearance. $9.95 and I have a book that shows and describes every EF mount lens through 2003. I figure that doesn't leave out too many. It has MTF charts for every lens, shows how several of the lenses are built (plus simple group/element drawings for every lens), and even had pictures of every lens hood, tripod ring, etc they make.

It's going to be pretty cool to have all the specs handy when I am looking at new gear. The "technology" section is really cool. It's amazing how complex these lenses really are.

I like it quite a bit so far... It doesn't cover any EF-S lenses past the kit lens, but that's not too terrible. I kinda wish it had the 200mm f1.8 so I could drool over it. That and maybe the 28-350 L IS. Other than those, it's pretty complete. I'm sure it will factor in quite a bit for my next lens purchase. It's also nice to know what other lenses there are out there. Before I got my 28-105mm, I didn't know that they made a metal mounted USM version. Luckily for me, the one I stumbled across was the metal one.

Unfortunately, I think my shopping list is going to grow a lot faster now...

Yes its very handy.

If you find it useful to refer to MTF data you might want to take a look at my comparisions (external link) and downloadable data base (external link). These are upto date with the latest lenses.
