Should I upgrade 17 year olds RF lenses?

I currently am using a 300D with some lenses I bought with my Canon EOS 630 Film camera about 17 years ago. I have the EF 28-70mm f3.5, EF 70-210mm f4.0, and an original EF 50 f1.8, which I will keep for sure. I'm soon will be upgrading to a 30D. I'm not sure if I should keep my "old" lenses and upgrade to more newer technology (IS or L glass), or save my money and use what I have. These are some shots taken with my 70-210 using Portrait Mode with fill flash.

Those lenses sound good. Are they not doing something you need them too? Of course newer USM glass may be faster and focus faster too, but your range and quality seems good and I wouldn't fix what's not broken.

I see you're shooting in portrait mode. Maybe learn the camera more instead of worrying about buying more equipment =) Try P, Av, Tv, and M modes...

If your happy with your shots and dont feel restricted by the lenses, then dont upgrade. If your lenses seem to make you work harder and you wish they were faster .. then an upgrade is in line for you...

Only you can tell if you need to upgrade.

Well, they are a little slow on the AF, and a bit noisey. Optically they are fine. The 70-210 does have a problem with the zoom moving out of position when the lens is near vertical. It's just the fact that they are a little worn, but still usable.

That was on purpose. I wanted to really blur the background, and these were taken under a bunch of trees with the sun popping in and out of clouds all day. It was a simple solution. I do normally shoot in the AV mode most of the time.

The one thing you'll want, if you used the 28-70 much at the wide end, is a wide angle lens. At least get the kit 18-55 with the camera.

I agree with the above - get the lens with the kit. I have just moved from film to a 350d and as a result i have had to buy a wide angle lens (tonika 19-35, which i am very happy with) at expense.
