2 different shots of the same bird. Not sure which i like better. I think the second one, because of the look, but i don't know how to get rid of the burnt out highlight.

I must be missing some detail, but those are both great captures, well exposed and framed. The depth of field seems to greater in the second shot.

OUTSTANDING!!

I don't think it's possible to get much better than #2. Perfect DOF, razor sharp and lovely warm tones. Just brilliant.

If you're talking about the blown highlight to the left of the bird, if it were me, I wouldn't want to remove it. I like a bit of blown highlights in the background - I think it helps with contrast. In fact, I wouldn't have minded seeing the same thing on the other side too.

Beautiful shots! How do you get so close??

nitin, i used the 300mm, but we were at the lone pine koala sanctuary in brisbane, and they have some eagles and owls there, and after the show, the handler posed the birds for us (us brisbane potn'ers!), so i zoomed in close. (and cropped in the second to minimize the highlights)

thanks everyone, i am still out as which one to put in the club comp! Last month, the judge canned anything that had highlights!, so even though i like the pose better in the second, i am a bit hesitant about the highlight. I'll print them both out and see! Maybe on paper it won't be so bright.

I too like the second shot Tina, the colour, contrast and detail looks much better. The highlight to the left does not cause a problem to your image.
Nice ones, well done.

Not to worry about the burnt out highlight in the second pic. The shot is fantastic. You're just being overly critical in my opinion. I'd be pretty proud if it were mine. ;)

I definitely vote for the 2nd photo, but there's nothing about that picture that I would want to change. You nailed it as far as I can see! :)

john, i probably am, but as i said, last month's judge canned anything with highlights, and at another comp last night a judge was also critical of highlights/hotspots, so i guess i am a bit sensitive to it. I love my photo regardless. It will be on my wall. Maybe i shouldn't listen to judges too much!!

thankyou zipline

 thanks paul
