Lens Focusing Problem?

I have the 24-70 2.8L and I have been using it on a tripod, ISO 100, for senior portraits. I shoot in raw and have even started shooting in raw+jpeg to debug my soft focus problem. I don't think the shots are in focus. I always set the focus dot to the eyes but the whole shot is blurry. I have read on here about calibrating a lens. How, exactly, do I figure out it my problem is the camera, camera vibration from the mirror, lens focusing problem or what? This was an expensive lens and I had hopes of razor sharp photos but mine are never like that. I set up the sheet of calibrated paper and I am still not sure. If I would post a photo would someone be able to interpret all this for me? LJE

Noticed recently I was having same problem with 20D after I compared the images from it to the 5D using same lenses on both as well as same studio conditions. Talked to Canon and they suggested I send camera in to be checked (it was still under warrenty). Got 20D back 7 days later and it appears to be corrected, handheld 70/200L f2.8 and shot was sharp. They adjusted focus and exposure as well as cleaned sensor. They said if problem continues send in the lenses, it was a lot easier being without the camera as it would be to be without camera and lenses.

One of the best ways to know if you have a focus problem with your lens/camera is using a focus chart as target and evaluate the results.

You have more lenses, so you can easily compare and know if it´s only with your 24-70 or with more lenses (then your 20D could be not correctly calibrated)

BTW: There are lastly several threads about this lens with focusing problems. Do the test at several f/stop mostly wide open, different focal distances and also at different distances from the focus test target. (looking for inconsistences)
