The brown truck pulled up about an hour ago with my Nifty. I have already dome some preliminary focus tests and it seems to be dead on with no back or front focus problems. I love the DOF from this lens. Whenever I try a prime I am reminded of the drastic differences between a prime and a zoom. It's awesome and this is my first prime which I intend to use for learning and doing some portrait photography. Sure it's made of plastic and has a cheap build but it's fast, inexpensive, light as hell, fast to AF and great DOF.

Congrats, Robert!

At the price of these things, it's worth having one in the bag. Decent lens.

it hunts a bit in low light for me, and the af motor's a bit loud, but other than that, it's really nice. im already thinking of going 1.4...

I got mine last week. I practiced with it in low light/stage light at my daughters school concert. Just incredible. The so called "motor noise" and "focus hunting" isn't something I experienced. I shot around 1/125 at 2.0 and at 800 ISO. I actually overexposed slightly. I could have gotten away with ISO 400. I'll try that next time. This is why I wanted to sell my S2 to get my 400D. I used to get so frustrated in low light. Not any more!

At least you were out only the 50 1.8... could have been much worse!

put into context, i was at a dimly lit cafe. stage lights are fairly bright IMO :)

In low light, you will find yourself using this more than your 17-70. At least I do.

Maybe pick up the 50 1.4 this go around. Better build, faster and quiter AF, and a bit sharper...

I love this lens and it just can't be beat for the money.

Here is one shot from this afternoon. I can't wait to try some portrait work with this lens.
