Nice set of primes you got there Ryan!
Are you doing any portrait work or do you just prefer primes as your walkaround lenses.

An 85mm is looking so appealing to me these days.

Well, I usually use my Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 as my main work horse. All the images below were taken with it. It is however, quite heavy after a couple hours. So, I wanted to get some primes to be lighter. I will probably use the 85 the most.

Thanks Unix! I am so looking forward to giving the lens a work out! I would like to see some of your results with the 85mm.

No worries. How about just a sample of some low light work?

Nice pictures Ryan. I know that as I buy and use lenses I will, like everyone ele begin to form new opinions and see differences in quality. That seems like a natural process. The 85mm f/1.8 just seems so appealing as a complement to the 50mm f/1.8 (I know, I know, I will want the 50mm f/1.4) and I find that even though I don't have a very large area to shoot in I can see that when I use the 50mm and I want a tight headshot I am just way too close to the subject. I would like to back up and the 85 will give me that. The 17-70 was not giving me that reach and when I take my A620 and zoom in all the way (effectively 140mm) it is just what I want. So the 85mm is like a 135mm (1.6 crop) and that it perfect.
I'm not nearly ready to buy another lens just yet and I am going to do some portraits with the 50 and crop for now rather then getting in so tight on the subject.

Thanks Robert! Yeah, 85 is about 135 on crop. You may never feel the need to move from 1.8 to 1.4 on the 50. You may not feel like you need the 85 as much when you get accustomedto the 50. I am getting closer to having my lens needs met. I would like to have 135L, a Sigma 300 2.8, Canon 100-400L, and 30D. Unfortunately, none of those will be happening any time soon.
