stabilier mode?

Tomorrow I'm going to be shooting a football game, using my dad's 20D with a 70-200mm L IS, Tamron 28-75, and Nifty Fifty. My question is, on the 70-200L, which stablizier mode do I use? (1 or 2) what's the difference?

Mode 2 is for panning. If using a tripod mode one will not be that useful as the lens has tripod sensing. if using a tripod I would probably use mode 2 if I am doing a lot of panning.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be using a monopod, BTW. Will this have an impact on that 'tripod sensing' thing? I never knew the lens had a sensing device. What is that exactly?

I'd suggest mode 1

Mode 2 is for shooting fast horizontal motion like race cars or low flying planes.

Don't worry about the "sensing device". Older IS lenses had to be turned off when on a tripod because the lack of movement would confuse the IS system. Newer lenses can sense when its on a tripod (no movement) and turn off automatically.

If you are shooting on a monopod there will still be enough movement to keep the IS working properly.
