Hullo Cat, I too have been wondering where you've been....now I see you were frozen w/sensor fear! Glad it worked out for you...did you buy from those links I sent?

Hello, I have been more of a lurker lately. Trying to get back to what this forum is supposed to be about, photography and fun :D

I used your links as info and bought from my local camera store

There's no need to test for dust spots at 3200 ISO.....just shoot something white at F22. Doesn't matter if shutter speeds are slow.

My first time cleaning a sensor was TWO 1dsMKII's at the same time. What a way to clean my first sensor huh? Then I cleaned my 30D and a 20D. The copperhill cleaning method is BY FAR the best method there possibly is.

$7000, mine was worth $8000 the first time I cleaned the sensor and I think sensor replacement is only about the cost of a 30D these days. But the thought of having to live without it for 3 weeks was enough incentive for me to attempt cleaning for the first time with other then the rocket blower. That was of course way back in Apr 2005 about 6 months after I had the camera.

I have noted that the camera tends to attract more dust during winter then summer (probably the direr air), but I have also noticed that it seems to be attracting less dust with age.

Anyway, congratulations on surviving your first sensor cleaning.

You're an L guy, what are you doing shooting past f/2.8 anyway;)

Ever notice how many "blurred" background shots are in National Geographic magazine? at most 1 per issue.

I'm about to take this on myself for the first time on my 1DsMII. I have 2 small spots that won't blow off, and are becoming annoying. Just got my "VisibleDust" kit from B an H today, and I'm rolling up my sleeves as we speak! It's been reassuring reading the posts here, as I will be careful, but not timid.

Good luck with that Canon_Bob...

I have noticed a dust mark when I look through my viewfinder. There is something on the god dam focus plate. I think I'll leave it for the time being... :|

All done. Definitely nothing to it. There's a video right on the main www.visibledust.com (external link) website that SHOWS you exactly how to do this on a Canon camera. It was super fast and easy, and definitely NOT something to stress over. I did a quick blow-out with the rocket blaster first, then did a dry cleaning, and then did a wet cleaning. Took 5 minutes.

Canon_Bob, dont sweat it. I took steel wool and sandpaper to the sensor in my old 1dsmk2 that I sold to calicokat! It still takes good pics. :)
