Do you have a CP filter? If not get one it will make a big difference.

First I would increase apperture; slow down a little and increase DOF. Get a tripod too and a poloriser as advised above. Compositionally the third wins, the other two just have no depth to them. For the third I would have cropped tighter, bringing the two on the left to around a third up and in, the rest of the picture would fit better then and bring the horizon to a third down.

welcome to POTN.. it sure is a challenge atleast inititially to pick up a camera, the suggestions above are good and I'm sure the PM dimitri sent you is better than any advice I can give you.. shooting in the middle of the day and with incredibly hard light is very much a challenge... slower shutter speeds increasing DOF, filters and exposure compensation can all be helpful.. there are some wonderful tutorials here and your manual can be your very bestfriend..

on a side note. there's a group of us traveling to Namibia and Botswana next year.. any tips on traveling in that part of the country i'm sure we'll be thrilled to hear them...

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p
