This shows the trail in Refrigerator Canyon leading to Walter's Wiggles. The 21 switchbacks were cut into the sandstone cliff in 1926 to create the trail to Scouts Lookout. From there the trail splits to either Angel's Landing or further into the park by the West Rim Trail. If you look at the larger picture, you can see hikers on the trail and at the peak of Angel's Landing.

This was taken with an 85mm lens on the 5D. 5 images were stitched together. It was taken from a spot on the west side of refrigerator canyon. It took a while of wandering off of the regular trail to locate a spot that was safe to take the pictures and also had a good view of the full trail, a ranger would probably have disagreed with my choice of location.

This is the same picture, cropped a bit differently, PP'd using LAB color space following the guidance of Dan Margulis, "Photoshop LAB Color: The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace". I am very impressed with the results using his process.

Nice, Jeff, thanks. The people give you a good reference to the enormity of Zion.

I hiked over to Observation Pt on the East Mesa trail last Saturday. There were alot of climbers on the walls and they looked like dots from the point, in fact I can't find them in my pictures, used the 17-40.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Thanks everyone.

Win, Observation Point was really spectacular. You do tend to lose perspective on the size. I've got some great pictures from there looking at Angel's Landing. With the 85mm lens you can see the hikers on Angel's Landing, but just barely. I've got some neat spherical QTVRs from Angel's Landing and Oberservation Point that you would probably enjoy. If you are interested I be happy to email them to you, the files are 6-8Mb. PM your email address if you would like to see them.

davewalters, Walter was Walter Ruesch, the Park Superintendent and was credited with the design of the switchbacks. The path is paved to minimize erosion. It is a steep climb that either gets you warmed up for the climb to the peak or wears you out.

I added a different version of the main picture PP'd in LAB color space.
