Cleaning front element quick question

I've been using the giottos cleaning kit on the 120-300's front element, and I've always noticed that when holding it at a certain angle the cleaning leaves streaks.

The only thing I can compare this to is washing your car windows, and seeing the streaks in sunlight.

Is this normal?

If I kinda "buff" the streaks out they seem to go away, but I don't know if this kind of constant rubbing is good for the lens.

Fog the lens surface with your breath (keeping yourself from spitting on the lens! ) and wipe it with a clean lens tissue or microfiber or cotton ball.

Always use a fresh tissue and you should be okay. Don't apply any real pressure - just enough to ensure contact.

Could be the cleaning solution - some of them, sadly, well, suck. I've used nothing but Formula MC for two decades and never had a problem.

It's great stuff - even cleans those hard to clean Hoya filters, optical resin filters like Cokin, etc. Works on the viewfinder, even (use a Q-Tip).
