Nice shots Krista, its fun shooting at night!

My only suggestion (which I always struggle with myself) is to remember that you're still in effect taking a landscape shot here, so having a good foreground anchor can help make shots look a little more pleasing.

I liked the city-scape in #1 the best but the bridge became the object of the photo and detracted from the city-scape. The bridge and lights are much more appealing in #2.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

You must be pleased with your results.
Now that you can manage the exposures etc you can start looking super interesting scenes and as Discolizard said get good strong foregrounds.
Have fun.

Thank you guys.
I was really excited. Can't wait to go again at night.

Hopefully next ones will be a little better. I am trading my rebel xt in for thr new xti.

Pretty good first try there Krista. I agree with rmwaterman that the bridge in #1 detracts from the main interest of the skyline.

Let us know how you get on with the move from the XT to XTI (or 350D to 400D) for us Europeans. ;)

Thanks for the tips, I cropped out the bridge and i like it better (too bad I am so close to the top of the buildings) i am going to go back and take them from another spot without the bridge and see how they turn out. All of you tips are very helpful thank you.

Excellent shots for your first time around shooting at night, Krista. Exposure looks pretty good. I know when I first started shooting at night, I had much to learn. You have done a great job at this being your first time around. Looking forward to seeing more.

That's funny... I thought the bridge in the first one made the pic interesting and original. Without it, the pic becomes just another cityscape...

edit: please see my comment as praise for your first picture and not trashing the cropped version... :)
