He is probably wiser than you think.... for he has mastered the art of being paid Quite a Lot for doing Very Little. :p

I aspire to get there some day because right now I am doing A HELLOFALOT for Very DAMN Little!!

In that sense, my dad is like a g*d to me, haha.

Therein resides a huge life lesson for ya, son. Smart people measure their success in terms of hourly rate. Say, your dad's weekly take in $ divided by number of hours he really worked that week.
It is kinda irrational making a whole pile of money if one has to work 12 hours days, every day, for it.

At first when my coffee-starved brain was reading this statement, I was thinking... "HOURLY rate? Like the burger crew?" then I got to the gem of wisdom at the end, encapsulated in one single bold world that differentiates the premium from the entry level. ;)

(no offence to the entry level. Believe me I am closer to that end...I know how it feels *sniff*)

All of it. For the rest of my natural life :( (or is it :)?). I think I have ~$4500 in equipment currently insured, including my photo printer.

 Head down, walks away...

Actually, sometimes it's 14 or 16 hours!

Well, I remember working in Lithuania, earning 200 Litas for each 2 weeks of work from 7AM until 11PM each day for 13 days per fortnight.

That worked out as 16 hours per day and 208 hours work. It boiled down to 1 lita per hour (around 25 US cents). Sure - the wage was abysmal by our standards but with free board and lodge (I had to buy real food elsewhere) it was an excellent opportunity to practice speaking Russian.
