Problem: LCD blanks out

Has anyone had this problem? When I shoot a reflective object that's on a bright white wall (as in an art gallery), my G2's LCD goes berserk and blanks out. It stutters, makes clicking noises, shows staccato images, blanks out black, then after a few moments goes back on again. And it keeps going on and off if I keep trying to shoot. I hadn't noticed this until I shot in P mode, but then it also occurs in Auto mode. And the light I shoot into, or the light background, doesn't have to be terrifically bright for this to happen. And if I rotate the camera from horizontal to vertical, this seems to stimulate the blanking out. It seems like the camera is overloading with data, or else something is just plain wrong with it. I haven't seen mention of anyone having a similar problem. Any info or ideas?

I may be the world's most amateur amateur. I discovered I was sliding my thumb over the LCD off-switch, the little plunger in the upper left of the LCD fold-in space. I especially did it when holding vertical and reaching for the manual focus button. The noises and jerky screen were from the automatic exposure mechanism.

Just learning, and there's a lot to learn about the G2, it seems.

As johnhm pointed out, it's probably the LCD off-switch your thumb is touching which causes these blackouts. I had the very same problem when I got my G2.
